Covenant Missionaries - Revs. Ut To & Karen Vo To
Two Vietnamese American pastors went to Vietnam in 2002 to start the United Methodist Church in the nation of their ancestors. Since arriving, they have helped start 100 new churches, a theological college, and ministries with women, children, orphans, and the disabled. Rev. Ut To helps train Christian leaders for these new congregations. Rev. Karen Vo To is a coordinator for the women’s ministry. Our church helps provide yearly salary support for their work.

John Dean Town Health Project
This brand-new initiative will serve 19 villages in rural Liberia to help residents make life-saving changes in maternal and infant care, water quality, and malaria prevention. Replicating a proven program, the project will train and support Traditional Birth Assistants (TBAs). A similar program reduced infant mortality from 30% to 5%. Three members of our congregation travelled to Liberia to help start the project in January, 2014.

Haiti Hot Lunch Program
Methodist Schools in Haiti provide free hot lunches to 22,000 students, often the only meal they will eat that day. Many students take some of the food home to younger siblings. Haiti is considered the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere and is still rebuilding after a devastating earthquake in 2010. The Hot Lunch Program has been very successful in lowering absenteeism, raising test scores, and improving the general health of students.

Liberia Sister Church

We have been paired with our sister church in Liberia, Bethlehem Temple UMC, since 2005. Located in a remote area of the St. John’s River District in Grand Bassa County, our sister church is accessible only by foot. Over the years we have exchanged emails and photos and pray for each other. Our congregation has provided funds for them to rebuild their church, dig a well, build a parsonage, and purchase Bibles and other supplies.

Nicaragua
Church member Jill Woodward has traveled to Nicaragua many times as a Volunteer in Mission with the United Methodist Church. She has laid block for classrooms, painted murals & buildings, and distributed layettes, toys, health kits, food and clothing.  She has prayed with people and witnessed to her faith through puppet shows and testimony in a women’s cancer hospital.

The Samaritan Counseling Center
The Samaritan Counseling Center of Southeastern Michigan was established in 1986 by local congregations to combine quality therapy in the context of a client’s religious values. The Samaritan Counseling Center’s mission is to provide “professional therapeutic counseling and educational services to all God’s people seeking wholeness through emotional and spiritual growth”. A variety of training and workshop programs are available to all.

United Methodist Committee on Relief
The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is dedicated to alleviating human suffering around the globe, serving people in more than 80 countries, including the United States. UMCOR provides short and long-term humanitarian relief when war, conflict, or natural disaster disrupt life so much that communities are unable to recover on their own. Relief is given without regard to their race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. UMCOR cooperates with other aid organizations but sees its most important partners as the people they serve. 100% of the money donated is given to the projects the donors specify. www.umcor.org

United Methodist Retirement Communities
The United Methodist Retirement Communities include retirement communities in Chelsea, Dexter, and Detroit.  These centers offer faith-based care with dignity to their residents and promise the same quality of care even if they outlive their savings.

Youth and Adults in Mission
This mission appeal, Youth & Adults in Mission, provides financial support for those members of our church who are going out on mission.  In the past support has helped groups and individuals do mission work in Nicaragua, Appalachia, the Upper Peninsula, New Zealand, Mexico, Gulf Coast & Haiti.

The Lord is good to all, his compassion is over all his creation... The Lord upholds all who are falling, and raises up all who are bowed down. – Psalm 145:2, 14
