• Children's Ministry

We have many opportunities for children to grow in faith – on Sunday mornings, midweek, and during the summer. Children are vital members of our congregation. Nursery care is provided for all worship services and classes.  Children are also welcome to stay in the worship service.

Sunday School:  9:30 – 10:30 am during the school year
Children ages pre-K through 5th grade meet in Room 114 for an assembly with Mr. Heath to learn songs and worship music before going to their classrooms.

Children help lead worship as acolytes, liturgists, singers, and handbell players.

    Children’s Message
A children’s message is given during the morning worship services by Mr. Heath, Pastor Sondra, or one of the members of the church.

    Children’s Church
After the children’s message in the 11:00 am service, 4-year-olds through 3rd graders are encouraged to attend Children’s Church for lessons and bible-themed crafts.

    Youth Group Lite
2nd – 5th grades meets every Wednesday during the school year from 5 to 6 p.m. with Mr. Heath in the Fellowship Hall for games, songs, and Bible lessons.

The Education Team gives age-appropriate Bibles to students who are 3 years old, in 2nd grade, and in 6th grade.  Contact the church office if your child would like a Bible.

    Vacation Bible School
Nearly one hundred children attended Vacation Bible School at SLFUMC in August 2016.  VBS is open to children ages 4 through 5th grade and takes place one week each summer.

    Summer Camps
Life-changing summer camps for children and youth are offered by the Camping and Retreat Ministries of the United Methodist Church.  Go to www.umccamps.org for more information.  Scholarship help is available from our church.

    Child Protection
All persons who work with children in our congregation are required to attend training classes for the protection of children, youth, or vulnerable adults.  Our “Safe Sanctuary” policy requires that each classroom be staffed by at least two trained volunteers.

For more information on our children’s ministries, contact Heath Whitehead, Director of Education and Youth Ministries (whiteheadheath@sbcglobal.net) or Shelley Lecrone, Sunday School Coordinator.
